Latvia: Submissions period open for Supernova 2024
Supernova will continue to be Latvia's method of selection for Eurovision. The country confirmed its participation in Eurovision 2024, and opened the submission window for potential entries
Despite not qualifying six years in a row, Latvia's broadcaster (LTV) is not turning its back on Eurovision and has confirmed its participation next year in Malmö, Sweden.
Alongside the confirmation, LTV has also announced the return of Supernova, the country's national selection that chooses both the artist and song for the world's biggest musical competition.
The submission window is now open through LTV's website, and will close next 1 December 2023. In order to participate the performer must be a Latvian citizen, or a non-citizen but whose permanent place of residence is within the country. Likewise, citizens and non-citizens who reside outside of the country are also welcome.
Foreign citizens may participate, but only as lyricists, composers, or producers of the song, and only if the participation doesn't account more than 33.33%.
Once the submission period closes, a jury chosen by LTV will shortlist the entries taking into consideration various aspects including the song's structure, the performer's vocals, and even their achievements within the musical industry.
The broadcaster has also revealed that the official list of candidates will be announced in January, whereas the one-night event will probably be held in February of 2024.
Latvia in the Eurovision Song Contest
Latvia debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2000, and since then, the country has participated every year (23 times). Their best result was in 2002, when Latvia won the Eurovision Song Contest with the song "I Wanna" by Marie N.
In the last 14 contests, Latvia finished last in their Semi-finals five times, and has only managed to qualify for the Grand Final two times.
