Iceland: Three qualify for Söngvakeppnin 2025 Final

Five songs were performed but only three made it to Iceland's national selection Final. Next week the last three will be selected and will be a step closer to Eurovision 2025

Iceland's Eurovision 2025 run is on the go!

The country has begun its national selection competition with the first Semi-final of Söngvakeppnin 2025. Five songs were performed and the public had total control of which three would qualify.

The show was held in RVK Studios in Reykjavík and hosted by Benedikt Valsson, Guðrún Dís Emilsdóttir, and Fannar Sveinsson, three Icelandic entertainers.

Once the votes were counted, and as stated, three made it through:

Iceland's Eurovision broadcaster – RÙV – is keeping their national selection contest in order to select their Eurovision 2025 entry.

Söngvakeppnin 2025 wil have two Semi-finals and a Final, all held in RVK Studios, Reykjavík, and hosted by entertainers Benedikt Valsson, Guðrún Dís Emilsdóttir, and Fannar Sveinsson.

The Semi-finals will be fully voted by the public, whereas the Final will have 50% of the jury vote mixed.

  • Semi-Final 1: 8 February 2025
  • Semi-Final 2: 15 February 2025
  • Final: 22 February 2025

Iceland in Eurovision

Iceland's debut in the Eurovision Song Contest was back in 1986, and they've participated 36 times since.

Their best results are two second-place finishes with Yohanna in 2009, and Selma in 1999. The country has finished last four times: 1989, 2001, 2018 and 2024.

Since the introduction of the Semi-finals in 2004, Iceland has qualified for the Grand Final 11 out of 20 times.

Iceland is the only Northern European country that has yet to win the Eurovision Song Contest.
