The Netherlands: Jeangu Macrooy releases his song for Eurovision 2020 – ''Grow''

Modern soul-singer Jeangu Macrooy has just presented his entry for the Eurovision 2020 host country, the Netherlands, at the Dutch tv show ''De Wereld Draait Door''. Listen to the song here

Jeangu Macrooy was internally selected by the Dutch broadcaster AVROTROS, and its selection committee back in January.

And today, Jeangu released his song for Eurovision Song Contest 2020 on homesoil: Grow.

Earlier today the song had been released on Apple Music, but was deleted shortly after.

At the Dutch TV show ''De Wereld Draait Door'', Macrooy explained what his song is about:

– Last year I had a period of life where I didn't feel good. The first part of the song is about getting older and describing that there aren't any guides for life. I was shocked and sad about that. The second part is about accepting that there are highs and lows in life and that you will get through life and you will learn from it.

Jeangu was on the radar for quite some time, according to the managing director of Dutch broadcaster AVROTROS and member of the selection committee, Eric van Stade:

– The song he delivered touched us right away. We are very happy that Jeangu wants to go on this journey with us!

Jeangu Macrooy

Jeangu Macrooy (26) is from Paramaribo, Suriname. Since he was 13 he has been singing and playing guitar. He formed the band "Between Towers" together with his twin brother Xillan.

He moved to the Netherlands in 2014, where he met producer and composer Perquisite, who signed him to his record label Unexpected Records. Jeangu has played on several festivals in the Netherlands, and has been nominated twice for an Edison Award.

Jeangu is thrilled about representing the Netherlands in Rotterdam:

– I am indescribably honoured! It’s a dream come true and the most beautiful thing that has come my way so far. My team and I are excited to make the Netherlands proud! Let’s go!

Jeangu Macrooy will represent the Netherlands, who have won the most recent edition of the contest in 2019.

Since 1975 the best result for Netherlands was in 2019, when Duncan Laurence ended first with the song "Arcade". They ended last in the contest 5 times: 1958, 1962, 1963, 1968 and 2011. Since the introductions of Semi-finals in 2004, they only qualified for the Grand Final 7 out of 16 times.
