Montenegro is back: Eurovision 2025 participation confirmed
After two years away from Eurovision, Montenegro has announced their return for Eurovision 2025. A new national selection competition announced: Montesong
Montenegrin broadcaster RTCG has confirmed the country's return to the Eurovision Song Contest. The last time we had a song from Montenegro was in Eurovision 2022, when Vladana Vučinić sang "Breathe." The following two years, Montenegro didn't compete in Eurovision due to high costs.
Montesong
The Montenegrin artist and song for the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 will be selected through the new format "Montesong." Montesong is set to take place in the end of 2024, and potential artists and songwriters can submit their song for Montesong until 1 October. Artists interested in competing need to have Montenegrin citizenship.
The broadcaster will appoint an internal committee that will select up to 16 songs to compete in Montesong, based on each song's melody, lyrics and production. If none of the submitted songs meets a quality threshold, the broadcaster will internally select an artist and a song for Eurovision 2025 instead.
The winner of Montesong will be decided by the Montenegrin public (50%) and by a national jury (50%).
Montenegro in the Eurovision Song Contest
Montenegro, as an independent nation, has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 12 times since their debut in 2007.
They have qualified for the Grand Final 2 out of 12 times: in 2014 with the song "Moj Svijet" by Sergej Ćetković, and in 2015 with the song "Adio" by Knez. Knez finished 13th, which is also the best result for Montenegro.
