Iceland: Songs released for Söngvakeppnin 2024

The 10 artists competing in Iceland's national selection contest for Eurovision 2024 have been revealed. The respective songs have also been released. Listen to those and vote in our poll: Who should win Söngvakeppnin 2024?

Earlier this week, Iceland's broadcaster RÚV made headlines when they announced that their participation in Eurovision 2024 was uncertain due to the Israel-Hamas war.

In spite of that, RÚV also confirmed that Söngvakeppnin 2024 will still take place. When the winner is known, the broadcaster will decide along with the winning artist if the country will compete in Eurovision 2024.

While all of that remains unclear, the 10 artists and songs competing in the three shows of Söngvakeppnin 2024 have been revealed.

All of the songs must be performed in Icelandic in the Semi-finals. In the Final, it's up to each singer if he/she will perform their song in Icelandic or in English.

Two Semi-finals and a Final will be taking place in order to find the winner of Söngvakeppnin 2024:

  • 17 February 2024: Semi-Final 1
  • 24 February 2024: Semi-Final 2
  • 2 March 2024: Final

Five songs will be performed in each Semi-final. Four songs qualify for the Final (two from each Semi-final). The last spot will be awarded by RÚV, giving the opportunity to a fifth act to perform in the Final of Söngvakeppnin 2024

Iceland in Eurovision

Their best results are two second-place finishes with Yohanna in 2009, and Selma in 1999.

Iceland 2021: Daði & Gagnamagnið - "10 Years"

Since the introduction of the Semi-finals in 2004, Iceland has qualified for the Grand Final 11 out of 19 times.

Iceland is the only Northern European country that has yet to win the Eurovision Song Contest.
